Market News
Despite how hard it’s fallen at times, and the dreary Saturday at AthFest, I’m really enjoying all this rain we’ve been getting. It’s been keeping the heat at bay, and getting all this water into the ground now will pay dividends later for sure. It has had its downsides with the growers, though. The blueberry bushes have been taking a beating, and it seems as many berries have been knocked to the ground as have been harvested. Garlic, onions, and potatoes are starting to come out of the ground and all three do much better with a period of dry air to cure, and that’s been in short supply. Still, overall the good outweighs the bad, and we’ll be glad later for the wet start to the year.
Thank you so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you on Thursday at Ben’s Bikes at the corner of Pope and Broad Streets from 4:30 to 8pm!
