Amaryllis Planter - NymphGrower: R&R Secret Farm
Price: $25.00 ( 1 planter )Available (Exact): 2
Amaryllis make for a lovely houseplant during the cold season as they set blooms when not much else is going to be available fresh. The flowers are long-lasting and gorgeous. I specially source the bulbs and get the largest that I can find. The larger the bulb, the bigger the bloom and the longer the flower show will last. They make a stunning gift for yourself or someone else. Easy to care for, all they really want is the warmth of your home (65-70F), and a little water.
Nymph is a double white with red striations (will bloom after Christmas)
Bulbs are placed into a 6 inch clay pot with soil and care tag.

Plant - AloeGrower: Good Roots of Multiple Choices
Price: $6.50 ( 4- to 5-inch )Available (Exact): 0
Aloe is a succulent that thrives in bright light, such as that of a south- or a west-facing window.
Perhaps the largest challenge with growing succulents (or any potted plant, for that matter) is watering.
Let the soil of a potted Aloe dry completely between waterings. Then, thoroughly drench the soil such that water drains through the pot into a saucer. Remove the drained water as Aloes (along with most plants) do not tolerate "wet feet".

Plant - Platycodon (Balloon Flower), BlueGrower: Good Roots of Multiple Choices
Price: $4.00 ( 4-inch pot )Available (Exact): 0
Charming balloon-shaped buds that gradually inflate and open into blue star-shaped flowers 2-3 inches across grace this old-fashioned perennial favorite.
Platycodon can be slow to establish in the garden and it is one of the last perennials to emerge in the spring, but it otherwise is a low maintenance plant that blooms reliably.
.
Preferring full sun to part shade in hot climates, deer-resistant, drought-tolerant, non-invasive, Platycodon is truly a garden delight.
NOTE: Usually, our 4-inch pot and larger Platycodons live outside year-round after being hardened-off (see below). But since last year (2020), we have experienced a larger-than-usual rash of plant thefts, so we keep numerous plants inside our Grow Room that normally are outside either seasonally or year-round.
We have found that Platycodon winters well outside, even in pots, after the plants have been hardened-off. (We do not have in-ground space, so all perennials are maintained in pots.)
In our area, each fall, Platycodon foliage turns a beautiful yellow. After substantial drops in temperature, the foliage usually disappears until late spring when it typically emerges from near or below the soil level.
Hardening-off: Plants germinated and nurtured in a controlled environment (such as in our Grow Room) need to be hardened-off when they are moved outside, that is, exposed to natural sun light and seasonal temperature variations.
To harden-off, place the plants in filtered sunlight for a day or two or more before transplanting them into their garden home.

Plant - Setcreasea, Purple HeartGrower: Good Roots of Multiple Choices
Price: $6.50 ( one-gallon pot )Available (Exact): 3
The two (rather pot-bound) plants pictured here were moved inside about two months ago, where we can better manage water and temperature over the winter. They actually are usually fine outside (see below).
In general, is this a Tradescantia or a Setcreasea? Controversy remains regarding the correct scientific name for this plant. Some authorities continue to refer to it as Setcreasea pallida or Setcreasea purpurea. The comparatively more recent denomination, Tradescantia pallida, has seen wider use of late. We are arbitrarily continuing to refer to the plant as Setcreasea, also known as Purple Heart and other common names.
Widely used as an ornamental in garden borders, as a ground cover, in hanging baskets, Setcreasea can be quite shade-tolerant and can thrive in a wide range of soils.
Outside in our area, Setcreasea generally dies back in the winter and returns in the spring for a long season of purple leaves and pink flowers until a heavy frost. On occasion, a particularly wet or cold winter might promote the demise of the plant, so consider taking a cutting and growing some of this versatile and pleasingly colorful plant indoors (as well as outdoors).
Optimal leaf color is achieved in bright sunlight. Cut back stems with spent flowers. Let the soil dry thoroughly between waterings as Setcreasea is quite drought tolerant.
As a houseplant, this Setcreasea has been judged to be exceptionally effective in improving indoor air quality by filtering out volatile organic compounds, a class of common pollutants and respiratory irritants.
NOTE: Usually, our 4-inch pot and larger Setcreaseas live outside year-round after being hardened-off (see below). But since last year (2020), we have experienced a larger-than-usual rash of plant thefts, so we keep numerous plants inside our Grow Room that normally are outside either seasonally or year-round.
