Scull Shoals Creek Farm

Located adjacent to Scull Shoals Creek is a family garden that has grown incrementally over the past 15 years. Two raised garden plots have expanded to more than a half acre of growing area. Composted horse manure from an Oglethorpe County horse-training farm is trucked in yearly. The composted manure mixed with old creek levee and toe slope soil has created a thick bed of nutritious loam not often found in the Georgia Piedmont. The soil retains water even in the worst of droughts. Spring produce is our specialty, but the summer crop continues to grow. No chemical fertilizers or pesticides have been used on the growing plot in 15 years, our tenure here by the creek.
