Availability for May 24
What a great day it was for gardening! I spent the first half of it along with several others at Athens Locally Grown’s “Farmer for a Day” event at Sundance Farm in Danielsville. We started with a wonderful lunch made from ingredients grown on the farm (along with other local items). Thanks to EarthFare and Heirloom Cafe for sponsoring that! We then helped the Janosiks by weeding several long rows of onions and then planting and laying down irrigation for several more long rows of melons. We wrapped up the time with a guided tour of their entire lovely farm.
We’d love to have you at our next event! They’re free, including lunch. Next we’ll be at Lazy B Farm on Sunday, June 24th. Lazy B is fairly new to ALG, but for nearly a decade they have been hosting educational workshops and expanding the farm to include vegetables, meat, orchards, and more. To reserve your spot, see the “Event Reservations” category while you’re putting together your order for the week.
Another set of tours is happening this coming weekend — by bicycle! P.L.A.C.E. is once again organizing “Athens Tour de Farm”, a three-day bicycle tour that seeks to reconnect the community to their local food sources in and around Athens, Georgia. It’s not a race, and you don’t need to be a juiced-up pro athlete to participate. For more information and to sign up, see P.L.A.C.E.’s website: http://localplace.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=category§ionid=4&id=32&Itemid=50
I’m totally exhausted (after working at Sundance Farm, I came home and spent several hours working in my own gardens), so I’m going to stop here. Thanks once again for all your support of our growers and the food they work so hard to make for us!
